His wings were made to protect her…but her heart is a no-fly zone.

Abbey Sellers has to get out of town for a few days while trouble at home sorts itself out. A getaway to her family’s mountain retreat with her friend, Jaxon, is exactly what she needs to relax and forget the wound etched into her stomach. Except since the scorching kiss they shared, spending time with Jaxon isn’t as relaxing as it used to be.

Grounded warriors, secret tunnels, and an ancient Book of Death are only part of the problem. How does any woman with a pulse stay “just friends” with a man who spent a hundred years honing his lovemaking skills in a harem? Besides, he’s immortal, and she has a shelf life. Jaxon, though, isn’t listening—or taking no for an answer.

Jaxon Hex finally knows what he wants, and he won’t let anything stop him from making Abbey his. Not even the devastating secret he’s been hiding from her. With the coven out to assassinate the woman he loves, and Abbey dabbling in death magic that could get her killed, his own blood could be the one thing that heals her—or separates them for all eternity.

Warning: This book contains a warrior with needs, a woman with willpower issues and a cabin that’s not what it seems. Watch out for no-holds-barred sex and a love that can move mountains…literally.

Interview

1. Do you ever get into arguments with your characters because they are out of control or don't want to listen to you?

Ha! Great question. And the answer is no. I plot my books and the characters do what I tell them to do. That being said, when things grind to a halt on a project, it’s usually because I’m having a character do something that goes against his or her nature or takes the book in the wrong direction. So when I get stuck, I have to step back and figure out where I went wrong. I think it’s always better for the character when I grapple with the issue and then figure out how to fix it.

2. What kind of research have you done for the Shadow Slayers series?

The most time consuming part of my urban fantasy writing is the world-building. I research setting information, such as location, weather, time change and such, but making sure I have logical rules to my paranormal world and then ensuring I don’t break them takes by far the most effort.

3. How do you write your steamy scenes? Do you have a nice mug of hot liquid or maybe a rich sweet delicacy to get your creative juices flowing?

If a beverage is nearby during the steamy scenes, it’s usually Diet Dr Pepper or a cup of black tea. Usually I don’t need much inspiration to write sex scenes because by the time I get to them, there’s really a feeling of the characters “deserving” that bit of intimacy and happiness. Sex scenes are some of my favorite things to write because although some can be visceral and raw, especially in The Shadow Slayers world, as the series goes on, those scenes provide some of the sweetest times of intimacy for the characters.

4. Do you write your own blurbs? Is it difficult? How is it done?

I do write my own blurbs! At least, that’s how it starts out. I have to provide my publisher with a blurb of about two hundred words and then it goes to the blurb editor for fine-tuning. It then comes back to me for approval and more tweaking, and we work on it together, trying to compromise until we find something that works for us both.

5. Anything you'd like to ask our readers?

Yes! And I’d like to give away a digital copy of The Silverwing’s Sorceress to one person who comments. Why do you read urban fantasy or paranormal romance? What are some of your favorite elements of those stories?

Arianne's Note: This giveaway will end midnight of January 5, Pacific Standard Time. Make sure to leave your email in the comments so I can contact you if you win.

  1. Thank you for taking the time to share with us today. I love urban fantasy as it lets my imagination run wild and there is always some baddie who is getting their comeuppance. The romance for me is like a little icing on the cake and if the cake is really good the icing takes a secondary role for me. I think I am going to like Abbey and am looking forward to the ride.
